The Kerman Mandolin Quartet plays Mozart Quartets – Crowd Funding Project

The Kerman Mandolin Quartet has started a crowd funding campaign for their first CD. This mandolin quartet has been founded by Jacob Reuven about two years ago. It is composed of professional players of mandolin, mandola and mandolocello. The name of the quartet is derived from the instruments that all four players are playing – instruments made by Israeli luthier Arik Kerman.

Jacob Reuven is one of the important mandolin players from Israel, he has played as soloist with many orchestras. Fabio Gallucci and Vincent Beer-Demander are active mandolin players, conductors and composers based in the South of France, they have recorded several CDs as soloist and with their Nov Mandolin Ensemble. Mari Carmen Simon has studied in Spain with Caridad Simón and Pedro Chamorro, then with Juan Carlos Muñoz in the Conservatory of Music of Esch-Sur-Alzette (Luxemburg). Mari studied also Baroque Music with Agostino Cirillo.

The program of the CD will be composed of four quartets composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart:

  • Divertimento in D, K.136
  • “Dissonance” Quartet, K. 465
  • “A Little Night Music”, K. 525
  • Serenade Nocture, K.239

Invitation by Jacob Reuven

Dear Friends,
My quartet, The Kerman Mandolin Quartet, is about to record its first album – a CD dedicated to string quartets by Mozart. This recording is of great historical and personal importance. It is the first ever such recording done on mandolins, and is a tremendous step in promoting mandolins everywhere.
I ask you, as friends, to please take a moment and check out our crowd funding page at: http://www.ulule.com/record-mozarts-quartets/
Watch the video, share it with your friends, and hopefully also become our partner. I promise the best music possible in return.
Thank you. It really means the world to me.
Yours,
Yaki

Promo text:

The Kerman Mandolin Quartet, which bears the name of the Israeli luthier Arik Kerman, is formed of four internationally acclaimed solo mandolinists: Jacob Reuven from Israel, Fabio Gallucci from Italy, Vincent Beer-Demander from France and Mari Carmen Simon from Spain.
For the past 20 years, Arik Kerman has been collaborating with mandolinist Jacob Reuven in order to create an instrument of matchless possibilities of sound and colour. Using the knowledge and traditions of violin building, Kerman has been producing instruments that enable mandolinists to play repertoire originally written for violin and other string instruments with great success, thus helping to integrate the mandolin into the classical concert stage and significantly broaden its repertoire possibilities.?
The Kerman Mandolin Quartet’s objective is to produce new performances of pieces originally written for string quartets as well as arrangements, contemporary music and new commissions.

Playlist Kerman Mandolin Quartet

The Kerman Mandolin Quartet has published many great videos that proof the high quality of this group. I have compiled the videos in the following playlist which starts with videos of Mozart Quartets. Other pieces in the list are a concert by Antonio Vivaldi, Contrapunctus 1 from the Art of the Fugue by J. S. Bach, Asturias by Isaak Albeniz, Movements from the string quartet Mishima by Philip Glass, and finally some tango compositions by Astor Piazzolla. At the end of the playlist you can find an interview with Jacob Reuven.
