A Minstrel Christmas – New Christmas-CD by the Freiburger Spielleyt

Since 1990 the Early Music Freiburg (Freiburger Spielleyt) have successfully played music of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance with instruments like mediaval lute, barock lute, viola da gamba, harp, flute, hurdy gurdy, krummhorn, frame drum and many others. The members of the ensemble have met at the music university of Freiburg and the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. The ensemble has produced 10 CDs and performed many concerts and recordings.

Last week the ensemble Freiburger Spielleyt (Early Music Freiburg) has presented its latest CD in two concerts:

Weihnacht der Spielleyt – A Minstrel Christmas – Gesänge aus dem Straßburger Gesangbuch

The songs of this CD are taken from a 17th century songbook from Strassburg (France) and have been arranged in the style of Mediaval and Reniassance music.

The CD Weihnacht der Spielleyt – A Minstrel Christmas is presented on the homepage of the record company Christophorus Records with audio examples from all of the songs.

I have found the following two videos with examples from previous CDs by Early Music Freiburg – this gives a great impression of the fantastic sound of this group:

Freiburger Spielleyt – Por que ben Santa Maria (CSM 327)

Freiburger Spielleyt – Tanto Quer Santa Maria
