Music and Sheet Music for Christmas

In three weeks we will have Christnmas, everywhere the special Christmas fairs have opened, people are drinking “Glühwein”, and the snow has brought a nice Winter feeling. So I thought it’s time to present some videos with Christmas music.

This is an mandolin orchestra from Japan who plays the famous Sleigh Ride by Leroy Anderson:

A nice bluegrass tune, from a Christmas CD:

While Shepherds Watched

Bev Barnett & Greg Newlon, with Martha Groves Perry, Tim Cupps, Steve Kritzer and Marty Atkinson at the TrueWind Music Christmas House concert, Dec. 13, 2008.

This is our own “Yee Haw Hymnal” arrangement of While Shepherds Watched, from our 2004 Christmas CD, CD Starry, Starry Night.

Another great Christmas Bluegrass tune, played by Bill Monroe and his Bluegrass Boys. At the beginning of the video Bill Monroe gives us some information about the history of this song:

“Christmas Time’s A’Coming” by Bill Monroe

The next video might be very interesting for guitar players who are looking for sheet music for a Christmas program. Kevin Gallagher has produced a Christmas CD with classical guitar, and he has made three of the pieces available for free download – including videos of the tunes. You can get Silent Niht, The First Noel and Deck the Halls with Variations:

I was asked for this arrangement from a few people last year, so I’ve finally gotten around to notating it. It’s from my “Classical Guitar at Christmas” album which I recorded in the great year of 1993.
This solo arrangement was originally conceived as a duet, so some of the parts are difficult to master. Feel free to adjust it, add to it, subtract from it, and make it your own. I’ll try to post a video lesson on this as well as “The First Noel” in the next few days.
Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy, and prosperous new year to all.
Sincerely, Kevin Gallagher http://www.guitar69.com

For everyone who thinks already about the time after Christmas – Roland Dyens has composed a piece with the title After Christmas Feelings – and he has made a video of this interesting piece as well:
