The Mandolin Method by Giuseppe Branzoli (1875) – Compositions…

I have recently added a new page about the mandolin method by Giuseppe Branzoli on my page about mandolin methods.

I have also made a new scan of the first volume of the German edition of Branzoli’s mandolin methodwhich has been published at the beginning of the 20th century by Universal Edition. This scan in high quality is now available as download on the musicaneo.com site.

On this occasion I have searched for videos with compositions by Branzoli.

Enrico Toselli – Famous Serenade – Free Sheet Music…

On the website  http://www.justclassicalguitar.com/vpmusicmedia/biblioteca.php I have found the sheet music for the famous Serenade Op. 6 by Enrico Toselli for mandolin and guitar.

Biography of Enrico Toselli on the website of the BBC: http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/artists/a3856768-44f6-4209-a8c4-4d70adff516d

and Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enrico_Toselli

Enrico Toselli (March 13, 1883 Florence – January 15, 1926 Florence) was an Italian pianist and composer. He studied the piano with Giovanni Sgambati and composition with Giuseppe Martucci and Reginaldo Grazzini. At a very early age he started on a brilliant career as a concert pianist in Italy, the principal European capitals and also in Alexandria and North America. Later he settled in Florence, teaching and composing, while still appearing frequently on the concert platform. He composed a number of songs, of which the Serenata ‘Rimpianto’ Op.6 No.1 was the most popular. He also wrote two operettas, La cattiva Francesca (1912) and La principessa bizzarra (1913).

Although a successful performer and composer, Toselli’s prodigious fame was largely due to the international scandal occasioned by his marriage to the former Crown Princess of Saxony, Her Imperial and Royal Highness the Archduchess Luise, Princess of Tuscany in 1907. She had previously deserted her husband, Frederick Augustus III of Saxony, years earlier. Toselli and the Archduchess’ marriage was not a happy one, and they separated in 1912. They had one son together, Carlo Emanuele Toselli (7 May 1908 – 1969). Toselli used his fame as the ex-husband of such an illustrious woman to good effect by writing a successful book of memoirs, Mari d’altesse: 4 ans de mariage avec Louise de Toscane, ex-princesse de Saxe.

On the website http://luiseoftuscany.yolasite.com/enrico-toselli.php you can find three historical postcards from the wedding of Toselli with Countess Montignoso (Luise).

The Serenade by Toselli is played frequently until today, and there are many youtube videos of this piece available, including instrumental versions for different instruments and songs in many languages. Famous ingers like Benjamino Gigli, Perry Como, Rudolf Schock, Richard Tauber, Jose Carreras, Mario Lanza have sung the Serenade.

Let’s start with a historical recording played by the violinist Jan Bleumers:
