Siegfried Behrend was a musician who had a big influence as a guitarist, composer, teacher and conductor. Until his early death in 1990 he has especially initiated many new developements for the music of the plucked instruments and mandolin orchestras.
Siegfried Behrend has founded and directed the German Mandolin Orchestra (Das Deutsche Zupforchester). Many of his compositions are played regularly by mandolin orchestras, guitar ensemles and guitar players.
I have once attended a workshop of the German Mandolin Orchestra and experienced Siegfried Behrend as a conductor. The recordings by the German Mandolin Orchestra had a big influence to the developement of the typical sound of the modern mandolin orchestra in Germany and many other countries, some of those records belong to my all time favorite records.
