Richard Walz – Beethoven, Hummel and Neuling – Works for Mandolin and Piano

CD Works for Mandolin and Piano with Richard Walz, Mandolin, and Viviana Sofronitzki, Piano

I have just discovered the following videos with recordings by Richard Walz. These are recordings from a CD Works for Mandolin and Piano with Richard Walz, Mandolin, and Viviana Sofronitzki, Piano, recorded in 1998.

This CD is probably no more available, and I do also not know how long those videos will be available at youtube – so if you want to hear it, do it soon!

Tracklist of the CD:

  • Sonata for mandolin or violin and harpsichord or piano in C minor, Op. 37a, Johann Nepomuk Hummel
  • Sonatina for mandolin and piano in C minor, WoO 43/1, Ludwig van Beethoven
  • Adagio for piano and mandolin in E flat major, WoO 43/2, Ludwig van Beethoven
  • Sonatina for mandolin and piano in C major, WoO 44/1, Ludwig van Beethoven
  • Sonata for mandolin and piano in G major, Vincent Neuling

all pieces played by:  Mandolin: Richard Walz / Piano: Viviana Sofronitzki

Richard Walz has a homepage about his biography and his instruments, and about bowlback mandolin in general.

Another interesting site is the site of luthier Daniel Larson who built a mandolin for Richard Walz. You can find several pieces played on this mandolin on the following homepage:
