{"id":824,"date":"2010-03-17T20:46:18","date_gmt":"2010-03-17T18:46:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mandoisland.com\/?p=824"},"modified":"2018-02-10T10:50:01","modified_gmt":"2018-02-10T08:50:01","slug":"the-adventures-of-the-duyfken-suite-for-mandolin-orchestra-percussion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mandoisland.com\/?p=824","title":{"rendered":"The adventures of the Duyfken: Suite for mandolin orchestra &#038; percussion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Recently I have found some videos of a new composition for <strong>mandolin orchestra and percussion<\/strong> by Australian composer <strong>Richard Charlton<\/strong>: <strong>The adventures of the Duyfken<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The vessel <strong>Duyfken <\/strong>was a Dutch ship that was the first ship to reach Australia in 1606:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In 1606, the small Dutch ship <em>Duyfken<\/em> sailed from the Indonesian island of Banda in search of gold and trade opportunities on the fabled island of Nova Guinea.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>Under the command of Willem Janszoon, <em>Duyfken<\/em> and her crew ventured south-east. They sailed beyond Os Papuas (Papua New Guinea) and explored and chartered part of the coast of Nova Guinea. They did not find gold &#8211; but they did find the northern coast of a huge continent: Australia. The WAMO announces on its homepage that it will travel to France and Germany in June 2010 &#8211; I guess that the orchestra will also play at the big Eurofestival in Bruchsal.<\/p>\n<h4>The Adventures of the Duyfken &#8211; R.
