Victor Solomin – Domra – Sonatas and Partitas for…

Victor Solomin is a domra player from Kiew in the Ukraine. He likes to play Jazz and music by Sting on his domra, but he also plays the works by Johann Sebastian Bach. I have compiled a playlist with recordings of the Sonatas and Partitas for violin solo by Johann Sebastian Bach played by Victor Solomin on the domra.

The playlist starts with some recordings of the Sonata No. 1 and the Partita No. 1 from the year 2000, followed by some live recordings from a concert given in 2007 in Kiew. This includes a recording of the famous Chaconne.

Enjoy the works by Bach and Victor Solomin!

Peter Ostroushko – Mando Chronicles – Great Compilation of…

Peter Ostroushko is one of my favorite mandolin players – he plays an interesting mix of fiddle tunes, oldtime music, music from the Ukraine where his roots are, classical mandolin pieces and his fantastic own compositions. And he has a great, mellow sound when he plays.

Recently Peter Ostroushko has published his CD-Box The Mando Chronicles, but I did not have the chance to listen to this new work. Each of the three CDs is dedicated to a different style of music. CD 1 contains Americana music, with fiddle tunes, oldtime, but also the C-Jam blues and other jazz pieces.

The second CD is titled “Old World”, the third contains classical music with Vivaldi and Bach, but also South-American music and choro pieces.

Victor Solomin – Domra / Electric Domra – Astor…

Last year I watched some videos of Victor Solomin and his band. Victor plays the domra, but he does not only play traditional and classical music on his domra, but also a lot of jazz with his band.

Today I found a new video of Victor Solomin with a great performance of Libertango by Astor Piazzolla played on the domra with piano accompanyment:

Victor Solomin Fantazia to Libertango by Astor Piazzolla Victor Solomin domra Alexey Bogolubov piano

I first found Victor Solomin’s profile when I looked for recordings of Stings song Fragile. Victor Solomin played a fantastic version of Fragile on his Domra:

You can also find an interesting version of “Spain” by Chick Corea and many more jazz videos, also a set of classical performances of compositions by J. S. Bach and Schmittke

Totally different is the following new song by Nadin Branitskaya and the Solomin Band:
