Maxim Cormier – A Young Guitar Player from Cape…

I have found Maxim Cormier on twitter when he posted about his new recording project. He has started a campaign with indiegogo to raise the money for his next CD. He plans to record the new CD together with his father Gervais Cormier:

Hi, My name is Maxim Cormier. In the links below, you’ll find some more information on me. I have extremely lucky to receive the “Big Sampie Award” given by the Celtic Colours’ Drive’ers’ Association and Lakewind Sound. This award allowed me to record my debut album.

A big part of my live performances are done with my father and best friend, Gervais Cormier. As much as I love my debut album, it only represents half of our live performance. With your help, we’re looking to put together an album that will represent the other half of our performances. This includes classical guitar repertoire played with a flatpick, some jazz, celtic medleys not featured on my first album, new fingerstyle compositions of mine, django reinhardt, my dad’s own compositions, etc.

Duo Conversa – Lydie Barrancos (Flute) and Pascal Bournet…

I have recently found a note about the Duo Conversa at twitter. The Duo Conversa is composed of Lydie Barrancos (flute) and Pascal Bournet (guitar). The duo plays music from South America and from Ireland, a great selection with good arrangements.

With its original repertoire of creations and arrangements around themes from the whole world, Conversa offers you a journey throughout flute’s and guitar’s tones.

The flute, instrument of all times, and the guitar, intrument of all continents, bring into echo the multiplicity of the world cultures’ original sounds.

Conversa will accompany us in an authentic and universal dialogue and then will echo in each of us the emotional world of us all.

Pascal Bournet has arranged all the pieces for flute and guitar. Most of the pieces have been published and are available, you can find the details on his website. Some of the pieces have been composed byPatrick Bournet, the brother of Pascal and a guitarist as well.

In the youtube channel of Pascal Bournetyou can also find some interesting pieces for clarinet and guitar as well as solo pieces for the guitar and duos for two guitars.

Clash on the Big Bridge from Final Fantasy V…

Mandolin orchestras from Japan are known for playing arrangements of music from computer games. I have recently discovered this great example, a version of Battle at the Big Bridge / Clash on the Big Bridge from Final Fantasy V played by the mandolin orchestra of the Yamagata Higashi High School:

Clash on the Big Mandolin Ensemble

Performed by the Yamagata Higashi High School in a music contest.

This music has been composed in 1992 for Final Fantasy V, a game for the Super Nintendo SNES. It is interesting that this  music is still popular after more than 20 years.

I have found versions of this piece for mandolin, guitar, string quartet or sinfonic orchestra and have collected the best videos in my playlist. In some of the videos you can see the animations from this computer game.
